My name is Richard Hughes-Jones. I am a Coach, Consultant and Lecturer who works with entrepreneurs and high growth businesses. My clients are typically in the digital or creative space, pursuing non-traditional disruptive business models, and are often investment-backed.
As a Coach, I support tomorrow’s business leaders on their transitional executive journey. I provide a safe space for my clients to discuss their critical challenges, reflect upon them and determine their own way forward. As a Consultant, I work hands on with leadership teams to bring an external and objective perspective to the incredibly hard task of business building. I thrive on frenetic change. I have worked with hundreds of different businesses across sectors and lifecycle. I’m an expert-generalist able to leverage a skillset that covers strategy and operations, investment appraisal, business development and sales, project and programme management, governance (including Board effectiveness), organisational design and culture, branding and marketing.
I am also an Associate Lecturer at the London College of Fashion where I lecture MBA and MA students on Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Consulting Skills. I am a retained Consultant to the Centre for Fashion Enterprise.
Whatever capacity I am working in, I seek to build trust based-relationships with all my clients. As a trusted advisor, I understand that you don’t get the chance to employ advisory skills properly until you get someone to trust you enough to share their real challenges with you. By building genuine, trust-based relationships with my clients, we can go on long and successful journeys together.
More about me
I spent most of my career in the Deloitte consulting team, working in economic development strategy. Between 2008 and 2012 I was seconded from Deloitte to HM Treasury, as Head of Delivery & Operations for a £1.5 billion government programme. Returning to the firm in 2012, I was the Business Account Manager for a major account worth £70 million in annual revenue.
My life changed enormously in 2011 when I took a five month sabbatical and embraced my dream of leaving it all behind to go and live in my trusty Volkswagen campervan in the French Alps for the winter. Returning to the corporate word, I knew that I wanted a different lifestyle and that my skills could be more useful elsewhere. In September 2013 I left Deloitte to set up my own business working with entrepreneurs.
Just 18 months into my entrepreneurial journey, I found myself facing an altogether different challenge. Diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer my entrepreneurial plans had to go on hold. Now in full remission, I bring that experience to the table when I work with clients, particularly from the perspective of dealing with uncertainty and building resilience.
